Underground Trastevere Exclusive Private Tour

The Roman neighborhood known as “Trastevere” refers, literally, to the area “across the Tiber River.” In ancient times, this was the district where Jews and freed slaves lived. Trastevere is one of the oldest and most beautiful parts of the city, rich in history, legends, and underground spaces. We will start our journey by discovering the hidden gems of Trastevere, such as the Republican Forums. We will visit the bowels of extraordinary and unusual churches.

In the underground spaces beneath San Nicola in Carcere, where legends say St. Nicholas was imprisoned, we will see the well-preserved remains of three Republican-era (i.e., pre-Imperial) temples. Then we will cross the river to visit the Tiber Island. In this magical place, which is dedicated to medicine and where the ancient “Fatebenefratelli” hospital can still be found, we will visit one of the first churches in Rome, now located below ground. Finally, we will make our way through winding alleys and past extraordinary sites to the very heart of Trastevere where, for the end of the Experience, we will sample local Roman delicacies.
