A Walk Through The “Sestiere” Of San Marco & Dorsoduro

sestiere (plural: sestieri) is a subdivision of certain Italian towns and cities. The word is from sesto (‘sixth’), so it is thus used only for towns divided into six districts.

A stroll between San Marco and Dorsoduro, the central and southern districts of the city, away from the crowd, discovering hidden corners and charming canals.  Enjoy your private guided walking tour.

Starting from Piazza San Marco, we walk to the magnificent Teatro La Fenice, one of the oldest opera houses in Italy, re-opened after a long period of restoration, is only five minutes away and not far is the impressive XV century Scala Contarini del Bovolo, the only example of an external winding staircase in Venice. The itinerary will then include Campo San Beneto with the imposing façade of the gothic Palazzo Fortuny, Campo Sant’Angelo and Campo Santo Stefano at the bottom of which the Accademia bridge rises connecting the two “sestieri” and offering a stunning view of the Grand Canal.
