Florence Jewish Tour

We begin your private guided walking tour today at the Synagogue and its adjacent Jewish Museum.  Built in 1882, the Synagogue is one of the most beautiful examples of the exotic Moorish architecture style with its extraordinary green dome, the only one in Florence covered with copper. Its inspiring interior features wood & bronze carvings, marble floors, mosaics & large beautiful stained-glass windows.

Then you will enjoy a walking tour of Florence to discover the unexpected presence of Jewish history from the XV to the XX Centuries in some of the city’s most famous landmarks: the Baptistery’s Golden Door, Piazza della Repubblica where the ghetto was located, Piazza della Signoria and the Ponte Vecchio area, and finally Via dei Giudei, site of the first Jewish settlement of Florence.  Jewish communities were present in medieval Italy from the 13th century. In many Italian cities, including Florence, Jews were restricted to specific neighborhoods and often required to wear distinctive clothes, but were typically allowed to participate in certain professions.
